White fillings

Many people have fillings. The materials used have been developed to be both natural in appearance and functional. As people have become more conscious of their smile they don’t want silver filings visible in the smile line. White fillings can restore teeth to their natural appearance. As they are bonded in place, they are less destructive to the structure of the tooth than the traditional silver amalgam filling. There is also the advantage of being mercury free. White fillings are suitable for restorations although some larger cavities in Molar teeth may require onlays or inlays made in ceramic tooth coloured materials.

Root Canal Treatment

This is required when the nerve supply of a tooth is infected by decay or injury to the tooth. Infection can spread through the root system of the tooth which in time will lead to an abscess. Root Canal treatment can be performed to try and save the tooth and prevent an extraction.

During your treatment the dentist will remove all the infection from the root canal of the tooth. This will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected and filled to prevent further contamination. The treatment can be done over two appointments with a local anaesthetic. It is advisable to crown a tooth after root canal treatment as this will prevent fracture of the tooth in the long term.

Crowns

A crown is similar to a cap or covering for a badly damaged tooth. They can be used to restore teeth with large fillings or cracked teeth which are liable to fracture. Severely discoloured teeth can be covered by a crown.

Crowns are made from a variety of materials such as ceramic and metal alloys. It is possible to make a crown from a combination to maximise both strength and appearance. Crowns have a long life span, but it is important that they are kept clean by brushing and flossing.

Dentures

These are a removable prosthesis to replace missing teeth. They are usually made of acrylic or a combination of acrylic and metal. A partial denture will replace some missing teeth and a complete denture will replace all missing natural teeth. A well made denture will help you eat, speak and often improves a person’s appearance

What is tooth whitening

This is one of the fastest ways to change the appearance of you smile. Tooth whitening is simple, affordable, safe and results can be achieved in two weeks. By following a simple maintenance plan results can last indefinitely.

Bridges

A bridge will replace missing teeth and uses teeth either side of the space as supporting structures. They are made by trimming down teeth on either side of the missing teeth. Bridges are made in the laboratory using the same material used to make a crown. The crowns made are joined together by adding a tooth in between. The resulting restoration is called a bridge. It is important that the bridge is kept clean by regular brushing and flossing.

Dental Implants

An implant can permanently replace missing teeth. It is a long term solution and placed directly into your jawbone. They look, feel and function like a natural tooth.

At your initial consultation an X-Ray  will be taken of your mouth to access your suitability for the procedure. You will have the opportunity at this time to ask as many questions as you like. You will not be put under any pressure to proceed with the treatment.

A surgical procedure is used to replace the root of the tooth with the implant. This will then be left (for some months) to allow the bone to form a strong bond to the implant, giving your implant the same stable foundation as a natural tooth. The crown is custom made to ensure the implant is the ideal colour, size and shape.

Invisalign

What does Invisalign treatment involve

An impression of your teeth will be taken at your first appointment, this will be sent to be 3D imaged. This will then be used to turn your bite impression into a custom-made series of clear and removable aligners. You will receive a number of aligners to wear, these will need to be worn at all times apart from when, eating drinking or brushing teeth. Your treatment will be monitored regularly by your dentist to ensure that things are progressing as planned. Your treatment ends when all aligners have been worn. To keep your straighter smile retainers will have to be worn at night for six months and then as instructed by your dentist.

What are the benefits of Invisalign

There are no wires or brackets like the traditional brace. The clear aligners are virtually invisible so it is not noticeable that you are having your teeth straightened. As they are custom made for you it ensures a more comfortable fit. Being removable it makes it easy to brush your teeth and eat normally during treatment.

How much does it cost

This varies from case to case. Treatments start from £3,000 and can go up to £4,000 depending on the type of Invisalign aligners needed. Your dentist will explain the full cost before starting treatment.

Is it Painful

Invisalign treatment is not painful, you can expect to feel some discomfort when you first start to wear your aligners. As you use them they will start to feel comfortable and normal. Straightening teeth gradually moves the teeth into a different position and this will make the teeth feel temporarily more sensitive.

How long does the treatment take

On average treatment takes between 12-18 months, this varies on individual needs. At your initial consultation your dentist will be able to advise which type of aligners are suitable for you and explain how long the treatment will take.
